About SUP Yoga
What is SUP Yoga?
SUP yoga is what the name actually reveals. With a large SUP board you can go on the water with a small group (max. 8 people). The SUPs are attached to each other on the water, which ensures stability. The Yoga instructor, or 'yogi', will teach various yoga postures.
The combination of being outside, being in nature and the tranquility of the water is something that inspires many people. If you love Yoga, why wouldn't you want to practice your poses on a SUP board, while floating calmly on the water. Delicious, right?!
Can everyone do SUP Yoga?
Have you never attended a yoga class? Don't worry! During the SUP Yoga classes you only do the basic yoga exercises. So you really don't have to be an experienced yogi. The exercises can be adapted to what your body can do.
If you have never SUP before, we ask you to first take a beginners lesson and then register for the SUP yoga classes. It is nice if we can focus on yoga in this lesson and not on SUP technique.
What does the SUP Yoga class look like?
About 150 meters from our location on the Turfmarkt there is a jetty on the Kampersingel, which is specially made to easily get on the SUP. The jetty is located on the water, with a low entry. You can easily leave the SUP in the water here and get on.
First of all, there will be a short warm-up on the side. Then everyone goes on the water and we paddle quietly to a pleasant place in Haarlem (depending on the crowds, wind and weather). From that moment on you can completely surrender to the elements and focus on your body and breathing.
The Yoga instructor, or 'yogi', will teach various yoga postures. Then we paddle back together. You don't have to be an experienced yogi, the exercises can be adapted to what your body can do. The lesson lasts a total of 75 minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Naturally, you want to wear clothes in which you can move freely. Elastic sports pants are sufficient, but you can also choose to wear a bikini. Of course, you may end up in water at some point in the beginning. So make sure you wear clothes that don't mind getting wet.
We recommend practicing SUP Yoga with bare feet. This way you can best feel how the SUP board moves in the water.
It is useful to bring a towel and a bottle of water.
We have a changing room on location. You can also store your belongings safely here.
Our SUP boards are Fit Ocean 10.6 Inflatable SUP boards. These stand up paddle boards are very nice all-round boards and very suitable for beginning paddle boarders. Because these SUP boards have a lot of volume, they are well suited for SUP Yoga.
This mainly depends on the weather conditions. If it is too windy or too wet/cold, we will consider canceling the class.
